WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ron DeSantis has passed Donald Trump on Bovada’s odds boards to be the Republican Presidential Nominee in 2024 on online gambling markets.

This comes on the back of an underwhelming midterm performance for Trump-endorsed candidates, while DeSantis himself romped to victory in newly-minted red state Florida.
In the wake of this, big GOP donors like Ken Griffin have been urging Trump to step aside in favor of DeSantis.
The New York Post – owned by arch-conservative Rupert Murdoch – has lined up behind DeSantis, calling him “DeFuture” of the GOP.

Polling of the Republican electorate is still favorable to Trump, despite the major donors and media moguls lining up behind DeSantis.
A recent Politico-Morning Consult poll had Trump up about 14 percentage points on his newly-minted rival amongst the Republican electorate, with 20% still up for grabs.
Trump himself, only days before the midterms, cited a poll that had him at 71% and “Ron DeSanctimonious” at 10% amongst the Republican electorate.
It seems clear that there is a desire amongst some Republican voters and some major Republican donors for a “Trump-Without-The-Problems” figure.
Right now, DeSantis has been anointed as that person. It remains to be seen whether or not that’s actually a good way to win a primary.
Given the polling, it seems fair to argue that the betting markets are a bit ahead of themselves by putting DeSantis first – he’s clearly still behind the former president.
With that in mind, political betting fans should remember the last time Trump was underestimated in a Republican primary.
