Despite Ankle Injury, Sportsbooks Bullish On Dalvin Cook

  • Dalvin Cook has -115 odds to rush for more than 84.5 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Cook is projected for 19.5 carries by the online sportsbooks.
  • Cook can do damage in the air, with -114 odds to catch more than 25.5 yards from passes.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Dalvin Cook makes his return to the football field as uninjured as possible following the Vikings’ Week 7 bye.

"I feel good. That bye week was necessary,” Cook said to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin

This quote helped to raise hopes that he could be at his best against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, as can be seen in his O/Us at the online sportsbooks.

Dalvin Cook Rushing Yards O/U Odds

  • Over 84.5 -115
  • Under 84.5 -112

Cook has only played in four games this season, and in one of them he was heavily limited, only rushing nine times.

In two of his three non-limited games, he went far beyond 84.5 rushing yards, putting up 131 and 140 yards, while in the third he rushed for 61.

Dallas boasts one of the best rushing defenses in the NFL, having given up an average of 86.2 yards on the ground, good for fifth in the league.

Dalvin Cook Carries O/U Odds

  • Over 19.5 -114
  • Under 19.5 -114

Cook’s usage has been high in games where he was not limited. In his four games this season, he’s rushed for 20 or more carries in three of them.

His O/U against the Cowboys is set right in that range, at 19.5, although Dallas has limited opposing backfields in terms of carries. The Cowboys are giving up 20.2 carries per game, which is among the lowest in the NFL - second lowest, in fact.

This fact should raise the eyebrows of NFL gambling fans about Dallas’ actual ability to stop the run - in terms of yards per attempt, Dallas is 18th in the league, giving up 4.3.

Dalvin Cook Receiving Yards O/U Odds

  • Over 25.5 -114
  • Under 25.5 -114

Cook does have the potential to do damage in the receiving game as well as on the ground, but the online gambling markets expect that ability to be far more limited. Cook has only gone over 25.5 receiving yards one time this season, and that was in the game he saw the most receptions - six.

In all his other games, he’s seen six receptions total - two in each of the three.

The sample size is low with Cook in the air, given that he only has 12 receptions total on the season, but he’s been capable of doing damage there in the past. In 2020, Cook averaged 25.8 yards per game in the air, while in 2019 it was 37.1.

Cook and the Minnesota Vikings will take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. EST on Sunday, and will be broadcast on NBC.
