Golden Nugget Secures Market Access For Online Gambling In W.V.

  • Golden Nugget Online Gaming and the Greenbrier Hotel Corporation announced an agreement that will bring mobile sports betting and online casino wagering to West Virginia under Greenbrier’s licenses.
  • This will be the fifth state the Golden Nugget Online Gaming company has secured access to.
  • Golden Nugget also secured access to the Illinois betting market last week.

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Sports bettors and online casino gamblers in the state of West Virginia will have another option added to their already growing gambling menu.

On Monday, the Greenbrier and Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) have announced an agreement that will bring their online casino and sports betting products to West Virginia.

This agreement comes days after the Golden Nugget received access to the Illinois gambling market with a sportsbook but could later bring their online casino selection if they can satisfy regulations.

This is all a part of Golden Nuggets' plans to expand in the flourishing US sports betting economy and marks the fifth state they’ve been granted access to.

"The partnership with The Greenbrier is an important milestone for the Golden Nugget online gaming expansion plans. We look forward to providing West Virginian players with our best-in-class product," said Tilman J. Fertitta, owner and CEO of GNOG.

As part of the terms of the agreement, GNOG will be allowed into the West Virginia market operating under the Greenbrier’s licenses after the company receives regulatory approval.

Golden Nugget will also have to pay The Greenbrier a percentage of its online gaming revenue which in return will help the hotel revenue stream especially with the COVID-19 pandemic having a major impact on the travel industry.

The Greenbrier remains one of the most popular luxury hotels in West Virginia and is owned by the state’s governor Jim Justice. Knowing the governor has somewhat of hand in this agreement hints at the fact that the regulatory process for this agreement should be relatively swift.

The Greenbrier has already inked agreements with FanDuel and BetMGM. This is the third and final agreement that The Greenbrier can make under West Virginia law.

“The Greenbrier is excited about this new partnership and adding to the incredible casino offerings already in place for our guests, members and friends throughout West Virginia. Golden Nugget has proven itself as a market leader in the industry, and we're confident it will deliver a product that matches the lofty standard that defines America's Resort," said Dr. Jill Justice, president of The Greenbrier in a release.

The betting market in West Virginia has been profitable despite the pandemic and bringing the Golden Nugget into the fold will likely make the state's betting market even better.

As we’ve previously written here at USAOnlineGambling the month of October was big for West Virginia gambling operators as they earned $53 million.

Those numbers coupled with the growing market show exactly why the GNOG and The Greenbrier’s agreement should be a big win for all parties involved.
