Indiana Breaks $1B In Gambling Taxes, Is Poker Poker Next?

INDIANAPOLIS – Recent reports show Indiana exceeded $1 billion in gambling tax. The money through the FY 2022 (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022) broke the $1b marker for the first time since 2012.

Through the forms of the gambling, the report proved the casinos held the majority. The lottery came second. Indiana sportsbooks did well from their $4.5 billion betting handle too.

  • Casinos – $660 million
  • Lottery – $344 million
  • Sports Betting – $31 million

But estimations show Indiana isn’t done growing yet. Spectrum Gaming Group released their research into Indiana online gambling. If regulated, the industry would be worth $450 million in its first year and $830 million in its third.

Aside from online casino gambling, online poker played a large role in the study.

Using Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Spectrum was able to estimate Indiana’s industry. These are the the three states with regulated online poker. Taxing 20-45%, Indiana online poker sites would pay $392 to $880 million in gambling taxes.

In short, poker would jump the lottery in gambling tax contributions in Indiana. It might even surpass Indiana casino taxes.
