VERONA, N.Y. - The World Series Of Poker is coming to New York for the very first time at Oneida County’s Turning Stone Resort Casino, which will be hosting prelims and satellites in the near future.

The first one kicked off on Monday.

The eventual plan is to have Turning Stone host a WSOP Circuit Event on Mar. 17-28, which will qualify players for the 2022 WSOP Tournament of Champions.

Oneida Nation Pleased With Hosting Duties

The Oneida Nation highlighted the potential benefits that hosting a WSOP event in New York could bring.

“Poker players will travel from all over the country to participate in this tournament and will take advantage of all the amenities our resort and region have to offer,” said Joel Barkin, the Oneida Nation’s VP for Communications. “So we see a number of benefits to be a WSOP host.”

The Turning Stone Resort Casino is home to the largest poker room in N.Y., with 32 tables available for players.

Oneida Nation Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter pointed to their facilities as a reason why they were chosen to host these WSOP events.

“We are thrilled to serve as New York’s first ever satellite host for the World Series of Poker, and provide this incredible opportunity to our guests,” said Halbritter in a statement. “We are proud of the fact that we are considered New York’s best poker destination, and being a satellite host for the WSOP promises to only build onto that reputation.”

The Turning Stone Resort Casino will be hosting local WSOP Main Events during the upcoming months as well.

These events will take place on Sunday, Jan. 2, Sunday, Mar. 6, and Sunday, May 1, and they will offer winners qualification into the 2022 Tournament of Champions. A calendar of Turning Stone WSOP events can be found here.

New York is planning on legalizing some forms of online gambling, including online sports betting, within the next year. It remains to be seen what their approach to online poker will be in the upcoming months.
