Wynn Millions Looks To Fill Summer Vegas Months With Poker

  • The WSOP will not be back in Las Vegas until fall.
  • To fill the void, the Wynn Las Vegas will be running their largest ever poker tournament.
  • The Wynn Millions will run from June 24-July 2, and have a prize pool of $10 million.

LAS VEGAS - Wynn Las Vegas is going to be running their largest ever in-person poker tournament in summer of 2021.

With the World Series Of Poker - which would normally run during the summer - not returning until autumn, there is a void waiting to be filled.

Wynn will be looking to fill it with the Wynn Millions event, which will be the top end of the Wynn Summer Classic.

The Wynn Millions will have a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million.

The tournament will be held from June 25-July 2, and will be played as a No Limit Hold ‘Em tournament.

Per the Wynn press release about the event, the tournament will take place over 90 tables, making it the largest ever tournament held by Wynn Las Vegas.

Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations for Wynn Las Vegas, also issued a statement as part of that press release.

"In its inaugural year, we expect the Wynn Millions to attract professional and seasoned amateur players from around the world," said Beauregard. "We're hopeful that the super-sized guarantee of $10 million emphasizes our goal of making the Wynn Millions a staple event for years to come, adding to our already world class tournament schedule."

In other words, Wynn seems to be taking advantage of the lack of WSOP summer events to not only run this event, but to see if they can gain overall market share in doing so.

This is an audacious play from Wynn, and seems likely to pay off - at least this year, when the gambling industry has been so disrupted.

Whether or not their long term designs manage to come to fruition is another question entirely, but poker players can make their summer Vegas travel plans knowing that big tournaments will be in town.

With vaccinations ramping up, poker players might be able to expect more announcements of this type moving forward, as casinos jockey for players during the heated summer months.
