Governor DeSantis Appoints Members For New Gaming Commission

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis has selected someone to lead a new commission responsible for Florida’s gaming market.

Julie Brown from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation Secretary was tapped by Governor DeSantis on Wednesday to lead the new gaming commission.

A lawyer from Tampa was brought in to fill Julie Brown’s former position as head of the Florida gambling regulatory agency.

The Gaming Control Commission also saw two other additions in the form of Michael Yaworsky as vice chairman and Charles Drago on the panel.

DeSantis has until Saturday to appoint the remaining two positions required by the Florida Senate.

Julie Brown’s Replacement

The lawyer who was brought in to replace Julie Brown was Melanie Griffin from the Shumaker, Loop, & Kendrick firm, and was appointed as head of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation by DeSantis.

The new commission will be responsible for reviewing rules and regulations including sports betting and online gambling.
