Ohio State opened and has remained the favorite to win the National Championship. Their college football odds opened at +450 in the preseason and have not risen beyond +600 at all. Their most valuable odds were at +570 in mid September after beating Texas and two non-p4 opponents. They have since dropped each week to their current +210 position.

Odds Risers

The three most notable risers since the odds first opened have been Alabama, Indiana, and Texas A&M.

Many were quick to write Alabama off after their Week 1 upset loss to Florida State. They saw their then +1000 odds take a dip to +1500. However, since then, they’ve gone on a seven game win streak and have won their games by a 16.1-point margin on average.

As for Indiana, after their college football playoff appearance last season, their preseason odds came in at a massive +10000. However, the addition of Fernando Mendoza through the transfer portal and an undefeated 8-0 record with top-10 wins over Oregon and Illinois, they’ve quickly dropped to the second shortest odds after the halfway point of the season.

The final team with under +1000 odds to win the championship, Texas A&M, has been on a steady rise since their preseason odds came in at +3800. The Aggies are also headed into the back half of the season at an 8-0 record and has already proven that they can win in any environment with ranked road wins against Notre Dame and LSU.

Notable Fallers

There are two main teams that had tons of preseason hype and strong odds that took a serious dip once the season started. Those are the Texas Longhorns and Florida Gators.

Texas opened with the second shortest odds to win the National Championship and as the preseason #1 team as well. However, after a loss to Ohio State in Week 1 and loss to an unranked Florida with the combination of an underwhelming Arch Manning, their +625 odds in the preseason have since fallen to +5000.

Florida had one of the biggest drop offs after opening the season with +5500 odds to win the National Championship as the #15 ranked team. After beating FCS Long Island in Week 2, they went on to lose four of their next five games including an upset loss to South Florida. Their odds are currently being offered at +100000.
