Where Did Alvin Kamara’s Receiving Production Go?

  • Alvin Kamara has had a fairly pedestrian season by his own lofty standards.
  • Kamara has -114 odds to rush for more than 95.5 yards on Monday but has only done so once this season.
  • He has -114 odds to get more than 30.5 pass yards but has only done that once this season as well.

NEW ORLEANS - Alvin Kamara entered this season as someone many expected to be the centerpiece of the New Orleans Saints offense.

With his elite production in both the run game and the pass game, it was expected that he would be used in a similar role to Christian McCaffrey with the Carolina Panthers.

However, he’s overwhelmingly been used on the ground by the Saints this year, which puts NFL betting fans in an interesting position when New Orleans take on the Seattle Seahawks at 8:15 p.m. EST for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

Alvin Kamara's Rushing Yards O/U Odds

  • OVER 95.5 -114
  • UNDER 95.5 -114

Kamara sees heavy usage on the ground, averaging 18.8 carries per game despite an oddity in Week 2 that saw him only record eight carries.

His yardage numbers on the ground have been boosted thanks to that volume, with the Saints RB rushing for 368 yards in his five games.

Expectations seem high for him in the online gambling markets on Monday Night, as he’s only seen one game with more than 95.5 rushing yards this season.

However, he’ll be helped out by a terrible Seattle Seahawks defense that is giving up the third most rushing yards in the league - 140.8.

Alvin Kamara's Receiving Yards O/U

  • OVER 30.5 -114
  • UNDER 30.5 -114

As for his receiving, he simply has not seen consistent usage so far this season, although there were signs of life in Week 5 against the Washington Football Team.

Prior to that game, Kamara had not seen more than six targets in a game, but he saw eight against Washington, catching five of them for 51 air yards.

This was his highest total of the season by far, and it is his only game this season with more than 30.5 receiving yards.

In 2020, Kamara averaged 50.4 receiving yards per game, but in 2021, that number has fallen off a cliff to 22.6.

Kamara’s production is hard to gauge for NFL betting fans, as it’s unclear as to whether the Washington game represented a turning point for the Saints’ usage of him, or a blip that will swiftly regress to the mean.

Sports bettors will just have to wait and find out on Monday for the answer.
